Sticking To Your New Year’s Resolutions

Many of us begin the New Year with excellent intentions to create healthier habits, live a more active lifestyle, or lose a few extra pounds. New Year’s Resolutions can help us to get the body and life we’ve always wanted! Unfortunately, most people fall off the resolution band wagon around the first week of February.

It doesn’t have to be this way, though! This can be the year that you finally make that lasting change you need to get your dream body, the year you lose those last 10 (or 50) pounds, the year you stick with it and reach the goals you set for yourself.

Here are a few tricks to keep to your resolutions this year

  1. Write it down – the simple act of writing down your goals doubles your chance of reaching them. When we write down what we want, we see it more clearly and are able to commit to getting to the future we are striving for. So grab a pen and paper (or colorful markers!) and write down exactly what you want to achieve this year. Get really specific here to create a clear vision of where you are headed.While we’re on the subject of writing things down, let’s talk about keeping a fitness journal. Keeping track of what we’re putting into our bodies and the activity we’re doing on a daily basis can be a huge eye opener. Even if you only do this for a couple of weeks to see your normal daily habits, it can make a huge difference in reaching weight loss and fitness goals. You can do this in a notebook or with an app like My Fitness Pal.
  2. Find the fun in it – the best way to keep to a resolution is to make it a daily habit that we enjoy. If it feels like work, we are more likely to ditch the resolution and go back to our old ways. That’s why you should try to find the joy in the journey to your healthier self. Try out new recipes if you enjoy cooking. Go to fitness classes at your gym or try a type of exercise you’ve never done before. Don’t think of it as something you have to do, but something you get to do for yourself.
  3. Get some accountability – one of the best things we can do for ourselves to help reach our goals is to find a support system. When we have an outside person that we feel accountable to, we are more likely to take action and get the work done. No one wants to report to their boss that they didn’t get their work done. The idea behind a support system or accountability partner is the same. This person can congratulate you on your wins, offer support, and cheer you on to keep working towards your goals.

These three tricks are painless to implement and will increase your chances of success exponentially this year! You deserve the life you want, and with a little work and some support you can get it. This year you can finally do what you said you would and become the best possible version of yourself.
