Tips To Stay Healthy This 4th Of JulySummer weekends are the best. Barbecues and pool parties, campfires and cold drinks, fireworks and late nights. The celebrations over the summer make some of the best memories.

If you’re trying to lose weight, though, summer celebrations can be a tricky thing to navigate.

Here are a few tips to stay healthy during summer celebrations:

  1. Exercise in the morning – when we leave exercise until later in the day we can come up with a million excuses not to do it. Get in 20 minutes first thing in the morning, before your willpower fades and your brain makes up a good excuse to sit in the sun instead of moving your butt.
  2. Eat your veggies – most BBQs and backyard parties will serve raw veggies, so reach for those instead of the chips. If you’re going to be grazing on snacks all day try to stick to the plant based stuff to keep from loading up on salt and fat before it’s even dinner time.
  3. Be careful of summer salads – Summer potlucks are famous for always having a variety of salads. But not all salads are created equal! Go for the leafy salads with vinaigrette dressing over anything with a starchy base like potatoes or pasta. If you’re choosing a salad with a creamy dressing, be mindful of portion sizes.
  4. Hydrate – it’s easy to fill up on calories from delicious summer cocktails or cold beers without even realizing it. These drinks often have more than 200 calories each! So try to alternate between a cocktail and a glass of water. It will slow down your calorie intake, keep you hydrated and make you feel fuller. It will also help ease the hangovers!

Just because you’re trying to lose weight doesn’t mean you can’t have fun this summer. Make smart choices about portion sizes and enjoy yourself! Summers end quickly so don’t miss it.
